The second bird quilt pattern in the Jewels of the Rainforest Series is the magnificent Resplendent Quetzal. Both the Mayan and the Aztec civilizations worshiped the Quetzal as the god of the air. The Quetzal's tail feathers can be two feet long, which is why they are so prized, even today! The Quetzal's feathers are also thought to symbolize spring vegetation and growth in the mountain forests of Guatemala.
